I D/L a service manual.looks like I have to take the front, keyboard, rear and display apart just to replace the drive.tedious work, for sure.Ĭouple of screws, some patience, you're done. This went on for 30 minutes until I gave in.įinally: "Dave": "it appears as if your optical drive is broken." No shit, huh? Dumb-ass.Īnybody ever taken one of these Laptops apart? "Dave": please sir, allow me to do this thing for a few minutes. Me:""Dave" how can your software detect that my disc drive is spitting out DVDs after making a grinding sound?" "Dave": I would like to take over your laptop with my Dell software.to diagnose your problem. Me: " no,sir.(gaining my composure) the OPTICAL DISC DRIVE.you know, the thing you put the DVD into? It is broken. I called Dell and after 90 minutes with "Dave" from India, I convinced him I knew what I was talking about and there was no reason to do all the dumb-ass registry edits and software masturbation.because the drive was broken.says "Dave" : "you mean your CD broke in the drive?" So, I'm NOT going to let the Dork Squad touch this thing. The thing is only 3 months old and the optical drive takes a shit.not that it's that useful, but I guess she likes to watch a DVD movie once in a while. Bought a Dell Studio 1737 at BestBuy(it was rather an emergency,I would have preferred to do a little research).
